For some dumb reason this past July, I thought of trying to lift a barbell heavier than I could possibly manage. I was doing an incline bench press and tore my left rotator cuff. I've been getting good rest and haven't worked out since then. I visit my chiropractor every week for ultra sound treatment and some other stuff.
Just last week, I lifted a TV for my friend thinking I was in good shape as my shoulder hadn't hurt from quite some time. And......the next day, it started hurting again and it's still hurting now, 4 days later. Hurting as in, when I lift it to a certain angle, not when walking or sleeping.
It's like 5months now since I had the injury and it's so frustrating it hasn't healed yet. Any advice I could get to possibly how long it would take, what should I do and should I opt for a surgery (the last thing I wanna do)?
Will I be able to get back to the gym soon? :(
Thanks

besides the chiro have you seen an orthopedic doctor? you should if youre not...chiro can help with alignment and yes..some stim and ultrasound, but thats it. If you keep injuring it, it wont heal, you have to let it be, do your regular exercises like the pendulum, or wall climbing..things that your therapist should tell you to do,just be careful. If you keep re-injuring it, you might get scar tissue which can cause more pain and trouble for you.
Seek the attention of a physical therapist or a orthopedic doctor.
Good luck and good health ^i^♥

I will be having surgery next month because the pain has been off and on for 17 years. Don't be afraid of surgery, I was , that is why it took so long for me to even discuss it. But honestly, see an orthopedic as soon as you can, he will probably give you a cortisone shot, which is wonderful for temporary relief, then you can have an MRI to evaluate the damage, if surgery is recommended, don't wait like I did and suffer unnecessarily. According to my orthopedist, depending on damage done to my tendons, recovery is anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks. Then you will be back in commission. Hope you get well soon.

It's been 5 months already and usually your cuff should have healed by now. I suggest you see an orthopedist. An MRI is needed for your shoulder. Once the results are in, you and your doctor can plan the next steps.

probably not a sprain/strain. they take 6-8 weeks to heal. A chiropractor would be good, but if rotator cuff tear is evident, then surgical reattachment may be your only option.
Get a MRI, to confirm tear.

Surgery is generally the best thing for a torn rotator cuff. My uncle's surgeon told him it was the best thing for him because it would not heal on its own. I would suggest going to a surgeon or specialist and have them give you some options.

Not sure it is a complete tear but could be stretched. See an orthopedist and get an MRI.
