10 x 29/49
6 ÷ 7/5

3. Which of these statements are reasonable?

Problem 1:
a. 4 / (3/4) = 4 * 4/3 = 16/3 = 5 1/3 --> greater than 5
b. 10 * 29 / 49 = 290 / 49 = 5 45/49 --> greater than 5
c. 6 / (7/5) = 6 * 5/7 = 30/7 = 4 2/7 --> less than 5

Problem 3:
a. 37 degrees is body temperature (98.6F), so 30 degrees C is close to that... I'd hardly call that reasonable for a windchill (cold) temperature. Specifically, 30 degrees C is 86 degrees F (9/5 * 30 + 32 = 54 + 32 = 86F)
b. 1 x 10^-5 is 1/10000 of a year. That's part of a day, less than an hour, so this is REASONABLE. Specifically, it is about 53 minutes.
c. 850 mm is 85 cm, which is less than 1 meter, so that doesn't make sense for a bus ride.

Math question?
is the value greater or less than 5...

4 ÷ 0.75 = 5.33333
10 x 29/49 = 5.918
6 ÷ 7/5 = 8.4

3. Which of these statements are reasonable?

a. The windchill made the temperature seem as if it were about 30 degrees Celsius. In the Fahrenheit scale, 32 degrees is where water freezes and it boils at 212degrees. On the Celsius scale, water freezes at th 0 mark and boils at the 100 degree mark. So, I would assume that you could equate the centers of each scale and look at the approximation. There is probably a formula but I cannot recall it.

b. We had to wait for a bus for 1 x 10-^5 years.---not probably since even the 1x10^0 power is 1 year. However, if that is a minus
power, then, that works out to be 5.25 minutes.
c. We rode the bus for a distance of 850 mm. No likely since this is slightly less than a meter (approx. 1 yard)

I cant be bothered answering the first bit. Try a calculator.

3a)Look up the temperature for where you live as 30 degrees C is actually quite hot. e.g. the temperature in Jakarta yesterday was 33 degrees C so with wind chill this could be 30. Here the statement would be reasonable.

The temperature in London was 12 degrees C and wind chill the temperature would be lower. The statement would not make sense.

b) When I wait for buses I think in terms of minutes. You have to turn the year time into minutes to see if it makes sense.

1*10^(-5) * 365 = .00365 days

.00365 * 24 = .0876 hours

.0876 * 60 = 5.25 minutes, say just over 5 minutes.

This is reasonable I'd guess.

c) This is 8.5 m. You probably walked further to get the bus. Probably unreasonable for your answer, but the bus may have broken down or you realized you got on the wrong bus and the driver stopped to let you off when you quickly realized.

k for the first question (about if the value is greater or less than 5):
1) yes. it is 5.33
2) yes. it is 5.918
3) no. it is 4.286

for the second question (about the statements...)
a. i'm not sure exactly how many degrees 30 celcius is. but i KNOW it is very cold. (either freezing or close to it). so if the question is asking if its cold, then yes. this one is reasonable
b. 1 x 10^-5 is .00001, so if you were supposed to be waiting for the bus for a very long time then no, it doesnt make sense.. but if you were supposed to be waiting for a couple hours then i think it makes sense.
c. 850 mm is very very small. so no, this makes no sense.
