In case the one with no drive through does not have access.
Actually, these machines are bulk designed so it is just easier and cheaper to design them all the same way rather than design them differently. That way they can install them without having any attention to such details and from the shipping to ordering hassles are avoided

Some places/towns only have Drive Thru ATMS
How else is someone supposed to get their money at night? Even if they are blind. It's very easy for someone else to drive them there,.. but they could walk there and use it just the same. People who aren't blind do it all the time. There are also various types of blindness and vision problems,.. so someone might be able to drive but have difficulty with... well,... reading the machine.
The important part is to memorize how each machine is set up or have someone around to read the machines.

While I'm not blind, I frequently walk up to drive-through ATMs. It's not like it's required that you be in a car to use one. Moreover, the Americans with Disabilities Act requires that all newly installed facilities be accessible to people with disabilities--which is the real reason.

If a blind person is in the back of a car then they can use the ATM when the driver parks the car next to one.

Good observation. I've noticed the braille, but never thought anything of it. Amazing what things get by you, or me, I should say.

funny, but I suspect it has to do with still needing to comply with disabilities laws and the mass production of ATM machines - would cost more to make special buttons for non brail buttons for the drive throughs

For the blind who use the ATM, they can walk up to it and it is probably a law now.
