Will be doing the change myself, done dozens in lesser vehicles, never done a Z, any issues I should be aware of? Car has travelled 60,000km (40,000miles), is a 1991. Should I be changing the timing belts, or can a good mechanic do a visual easily? Thanks to all for your thoughts and suggestions.

I am a fan of any synthetic oil, MOBIL 1. Castrol syntec etc, I also like the K&N oil filters as they have a much thicker case and have a device on the bottom to use a wrench on to REMOVE ONLY,, should NEVER be more than hand tight. As for the timing belt, I would guess the change interval is about 100K miles and there is no way to check it visually and predict its condition, Changing it is cheap insurance ESPECIALLY in an interference motor, that is a motor that will allow the pistons to contact the valves if the belt fails.

For turbocharged cars synthetic engine oil is the only way to go. All of the major brands work just find. Don't forget about the run-down procedure - always let the engine idle for about a minute after you drive but before you shut the engine off. That will roughly double the life of the turbo's!

Think if you switch to a good synthetic like castro then you need to continue using the same type... The castro syn..blend will do a better job on start up and wear -n-tear.. Most timing belts are good till at least 50,ooo miles...but can buy a Haynes book from auto-zone and have the specs.. for most maintenance..
