I am thinking about getting a nipple piercing but I was wondering if it was possible to remove ring for a short amount of time (couple hours) once it heals, for family functions. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

I wouldn't recommend it. I had one once and took out the ring. Very painful trying to get it back in.

once it is completely healed you can remove it and reinsert it just like earrings or other body piercings, provided you dont leave it out more than a short time. be advised...it takes quite a while for nipple piercings to heal. mine took almost a year, and i took very very good care of it.
