Newspaper and an iron. Put several pages down and put the iron on it on a cooler setting. Replace the paper until no wax appears. You may need to lift the cook top (your owners manual will show you how) to see if it dripped there.

Since you think it is inside the best thing to do is turn the oven on, open a window, place a fan blowing out in front of the window and go Christmas shopping for at least two hours. If it is still smoking when you return...go out to dinner.

This paper and iron trick works for candle wax in carpet or fabric as well. For this application, be careful and test the newspaper for ink bleed. The L A Times uses waterproof ink our local paper does not.

If you are sure that the wax is underneath and it is easy for you to unscrew it, do it. All you would have to do is scrape it off with something soft. But it will burn off on it's own with constant use of your stove. If it is causing a lot of smoke whenever it is on, you can turn on your exhaust fan to draw it out. If you know exactly what happened and know how much actually got in, you can decide what you should so.

I am so glad you asked. Gas definitely. You are very very lucky if you have a choice. The electric is awful. Best time of my life is when I had a gas stove. Chef's use gas always. Gas is cheaper and it heats up in a flash even when the stove gets old. No waiting. Electric is uneven cooking. Takes too long for coils to heat up as it gets a little older. Always replacing the darned coils or switches. Definitely get gas. No contest! Gas stove is a winner.

place a peice of wax paper over it and heat it up lightly-the wax paper will take up the wax.
