I have had my period for 5 years now. During the past 3 years (maybe further) I have been getting some severe pain during my period. PMS beforehand and during the first day or two, and once it starts its really bad cramping, to the point where I dont want to move or stand up. I get dizzy and nauscous, and I have muscle soreness from the middle of my back to my knees. Headaches come faster and easier. Could it be dysmenorrhea? I dont have sex, but I dont think I want to go on the pill or patch or anything. My period is only 4 days long, and Im scared going on the pill will make it last all 7 placebo days. OTC meds dont help much at all, I take perscription doses of ibuprofen just to deal with it. I hate it. Could it be dysmenorrhea? If or if not, what are some ways to help remedy the pain?

It sounds like dysmenorrhea. Have a talk with your gyno, please, because you should not have to suffer this way.

Yeah.. Well I think so. I get that too anyway. I can usually tell when it's coming because I feel sick and sore in the 1 or 2 days leading up to it. If you're really concerned about it see a doctor but it should be fine. There's no set time for the pain to kick in. Some people don't even get pain. Some get it so bad they have to stay in bed. Some get it two weeks before their period starts for a few days then it goes away again. Like I said, you should be fine but see a doctor if you're concerned.

Check with a doctor. There are exercises that can relieve some of the pain, as well as breathing exercises. However, I would do as your doctor suggests, pill etc.

could be that the suspensory ligament that attaches to the uterus is spasmed. Look into stretching the pelvis and muscular attachments in that area to alleviate this tension.
Also, I assume that your ob/gyn knows of this problem and all other problems have been elimated from a diagnosis.
