If it didn't cost a lot of money than everyone would run for something. And besides this is how the world is, only the rich can run in elections and things of that matter now a days. US regular folks can only vote them in to office. And than there are those cases where they just buy them selfs in to office, what a world we live in.

Unfortunately that is what it has become. it is so, so wrong and not at all what our founding fathers intended. We were meant to be a nation where any young person could grow up to become president. Now it is a case of which rich kid will buy his way in... Sad but true. The best we can hope for is that the rich kid will turn out to be a decent human being... what we have now is a very poor example.

Exposure....without exposure..your wasting your time....even in city council elections one can spend almost $500,000 for a position that only pays 15k a year.
In this last election here.. someone spent 3 million for a position that only pays $120,000 per year.
Whats up with that?

It's to ensure that people don't put themselves up for election on a drunken whim, in the way that people get tattoos saying they love some 300lb 56 year old lesbian that they've only just met.

If you aren't a member of the club, you have no chance of winning. Bad system in it's present form and needs to be changed and revamped but likely won't be.

It's to help make sure every joe shmoe in town doesn't crowd the ballot. It is elitist in a way, but it alse helps make sure that a candidate has ample support.

you don't NEED to pay a high fee but campaigns cost a lotta money. but if you didn't campaign then no one would know who you are. that's the US for ya.
