Personally - All my hairs would stand on end and I'd ready myself for a war.

Legally - Nah nothing wrong with that just as long as they don't try to rewrite the constitution (well, already happening) or bring in Islamic law.

ALWAYS maintain a HIGH INDEX of SUSPICION

Religious conviction will never be a threat to a nation, unless that religion is a threat to a "nationalism" proclaimed by a specific country's leader and/or people.

Historically, the "Crusaders" dealt with those who had opposing religious convictions through annihilation. Hitler condemned Jewish religious to concentration camps, torture, starvation, and death.

Christians were persecuted by the Romans, thrown into prisons, tortured, and subjected to personal degradation because they were considered by an emperor to be a "threat".

Catholics were, and are still, considered to be a threat by those who believe Catholics worship Mary and the Saints. These people know nothing of Catholicism; only what they have been told by someone else.

The largest threat to a nation is people who have no allegiance to anyone; those who are only seeking personal gratification.

In China, a mass religions conversion will be considered a threat to it's nation, as in the case of Falon Gong.
In your hypothetical case, the USA, the likelihood of conversion to Islam of that scale is extremely unlikely. If you are indeed a Muslim, and a fundamentalist, and you know about Amercan people, they are extremely unlikely to take to Islam. No drinking? Two females would not even be equated to a man in court? May be some females would subject themselves to that kind of inequality, but certainly not the majority.
That said, as a generally rule, if more than 50% convert to Islam, in theory, if there is an Islam candidate for president, than that person would be elected if all Islam citizen votes for him (just not likely to be a her, would it?

I believe the U.S. is still a country that welcomes all religions. If Islam became 50% i would hope that they would live as Americans and the American way no matter what their religion... in freedom. If they can not.. then they should go back to whence they came. Freedom is what our forefathers fought for.. not religious persecution, not war over religion. But as long as any person of any religion wants to live in peace in America... then Welcome.

"A threat to a nation". If half of America converted to any religion, it would not be a threat to other Americans, but it would scare the hell out of the other religions.

watch out for the arab. he's using islam to conquer the world for his own amusement and the muslim radicals are falling for his garbage promises of world domination. when he decides to have all muslims wear his mark, you'll be able to be a part of his destructrion, or someone who doesn't fall with him.you may say i'm a christian, but i'm far more. i am a realist and i see what is real and what i see is not something to be glad about, but saddened for those who will join his destruction, whatever religion one may follow. i'm not anti-muslim, just anti-ignorant. far too many are ignorant of what is happening to understand, and they are the one's who will suffer most. remember, all men are equal in the grave. and in the eyes of god, or in your case, allah!

It depends what faith the religious conversion is.
I cannot see a bad effect on the country unless it's a violent
religious group/and/or a forceful religion

what would happen..?? nothing SHOULD happen.. Check the first ammendment!! FREEDOM OF RELIGION!!! The government should do nothing.. Islam is the fastest growing religion.. but it would never grow THAT fast... and if something WERE to happen.. it would be because of a prejudiced government...

Hence.. Our current war.... It's time our troops came back!!!
