I'm not a readily spooked out guy, but every so often I think there is something there, brooding and livid. Eep.

Those are the darker, quieter places in the house which
can cause us to become fearful at times...even the brave
occupants in the house can emit fear in the dark but
once you gain control over your fears, you realize
your mind can play some pretty mean tricks on you.

I used to have that problem with dark basements all the time when I was younger. Inevitably I would have to go down to the basement after dark, when the rest of the house was asleep, and on the way back up the stairs, it felt as though all the demons in hell were creeping up behind me. I'd try to force myself to be reasonable... to slowly and deliberately climb the stairs, especially as I had no problem with it in the daylight, but it never failed.. I'd make it about halfway up and then I'd be running for my life taking the steps two at a time, heart beating a mile a minute. I'd always laugh at myself when I was safely upstairs, but wow... what an overwhelming feeling.

I suspect it was my overactive imagination rather than anything truly sinister hanging around the vicinity, because it happened whether I was at home or at one of the Grandma's or the babysitter's, etc.

Nearly everyone in the world can sense other spiritual energies. For myself I can sense auras, demons, and shadow spirits. You are probably experiencing the shadow spirits, these are the souls of the people who have yet to be placed into a body. There is no reason to fear them, they are just looking around to see what the world is like before they enter it. Although it has been known that demons will deceive you into thinking that they are shadow spirits, and cause people harm. Always be wise when dealing with spirits in general.

I remember when I was around eleven years old, back in '81, and my mother and I were visiting my aunt in Virginia. We were staying for about two weeks, and our room was to the left at the top of a flight of stairs. Now this was an older house, tall and sprawling, with ten foot ceilings and thick floors. Because of this the staircase was a good twelve feet tall with about thirteen steps. The only light switch was located at the top of the stairs, and after dark you were forced to walk up those stairs, into darkness, before you could reach the switch.
At any rate, it was well past my bedtime, and my mother and aunt were sitting in the living room so I asked my mother to go up with me. My mother started to get up, but my aunt told her to sit down, and that a boy like me shouldn't be afraid of the dark. So I begged, whined, cajoled, and screamed, ultimately refusing to go up those stairs. Then I looked up to the top - and this gives me chills to this day - and there were two glowing red eyes looking down at me. I freaked out, and that's when the lights went out. I was left screaming, hysterical, in absolute darkness while the Dark surged and swelled around me like a living thing, surrounding and mocking me. A few seconds later the lights returned, and my mother and aunt hadn't moved, and were as freaked out as I was. But you see, that's where the Dark made its mistake: it had humiliated me, and that made me madder than I had ever been. The next night I went boldly up those stairs and fought the Dark back, striving will against will, and I won. Whatever dwelt in that house fled before me. And ever since I have walked in darkness when I have to, fearing nothing.

I know the feeling. Just know that it can't hurt you. If it bothers you a lot take a sage stick and smudge the place. Sage has been used by lots of groups to cleans an area.

yes, I feel these evil forces too... but then I remember that I broke up with my ex-girlfriend over a month ago and I know that she's not really there in the shadows

The Forces of evil are very real... the presence of evil can be felt... Those who have the authority of Jesus The Christ can command them to depart... those who do not are on their own.

All the time. Some of us are just more sensitive to these things than others and it sounds like you are too... Though I can't say I'm enormously surprised. : )
