my dad has broken several radios- he does not want anything with headphones or to stick in his pocket- just something with some speakers so he can get am/fm stations. needs to be "drop-able" because it gets thrown in the wheelbarrow with tools - we saw ones from dewallt and sony for $130 - looking for something about half that price-- anyone have ideas on durable "boomboxes"?

Check radioshack- they usually carry the unusual and I'm sure their prices are more reasonable than $130. Another thought is Shopzilla.com

I found the Dewallt for under $100 with shipping included listed on ebay. The particular Dewallt model is going for up to $250 retail, with an average of about $140. So this is really a steal. It seems as if you're not going to find these good, durable brands for any less than I found really. If he's in construction, I recommend sticking with the Dewallt, as it is a respectable tool company. Besides, better to buy one good one that will last longer than a bunch of inexpensive ones he'll have to keep replacing.

I really esteem myself on how good of a bargain hunter I am, and this is the best I could do! Good luck and happy holidays.

yes, there are several brands that offer "construction radios", one that i personal;y recomend is a ryobi brand radio, as an electronic repairman, i know from experience that its not the brand that matters but its componets. Also you might want to consider the package deals that are made up of power tools a flashlight and a radio, that will usualy birng the overal price down. good luck.

If you can get the money go with the Dewalt. Its worth it in the long run, cuz if he breaks it they have an unconditional warrenty. If you cant spend that much Jeep (The Vehicle company) makes one thats about 60-80 dollars and is decent.
