The Department of Health (UK) recommends 6 months, although in circumstances you can start with some foods at about 4 months. You need to talk to your doctor or health visitor before starting weaning early though, because some foods are not suitable for babies under 6 months e.g. wheat, gluten, dairy. This is because a baby's immature digestive system cannot process these foods properly and it's thought that this is what triggers many food allergies.

Better to be safe than sorry, so ask a health professional.

Good luck and best wishes

The recommended age these days is 6 months! I started giving my sons baby rice at 3 months (not too much though just a teaspoon or 2 a day!)

The later the better so that their digestive systems can cope with the new food!

Don't give cows milk until they're 1 years old because of allergens etc - Cows milk is for baby cows anyway and is difficult for humans to digest due to the high lactose content! (Before you ask - I'm not vegan!!) ;)

Don't give honey to a baby under 1 years either (I'm not sure why but it isn't recommended!)

Wheat is a high allergen too so limit baby's intake of that too!

breast feed or furmula feed fully for the first 4 months and then the doctor will check the baby's weight and tell u what to do. if the weight is ok and if shes satisfied with breast or formula milk alone then you can continue milk till 6 months but if you feel like milk alone will not make the baby satisfied you can start baby foods anytime between 4-6 months.
start with a little bit of cereal and small amounts of fruits like mango, papaya, avocado and introduce bay food step by step to find out what foods might cause allergy to the baby!!!

It depends on the child, but you can start stage 1 after about 3 months. Your baby shoudl be taking formula and not straight milk and I highly recommend formulas with DHA&ARA in them. Most of them have these. Also, your pediatrician will say that after one year your child should be off the bottle and off formula. My personal thought is that the formula is packed with vitamins and minerals which are good for a growing baby, so I prolonged the formula a bit more. I had my daughter on solid foods by 12 months and at 15 months she was eating what we ate. At 15 months my daughter was eating pot roast with the rest of us. Talk to your pediatrician and use common sence.

You can start giving babies food anywhere between 4-6 months, but you should start with baby cereal first, rice cereal is a good choice, always introduce foods one at a time in case of allergic reactions.
Ultimately too though, it is up to you and the baby about when to start feeding solids.

6 Months

usually 4 months you can start with baby cereal.... then 6 months theres other foods... they usually have then onthe jars.. but look honestly those things arent as good as home made. I steamed potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, apples, pears..etc and just mashed them up.. at l;east i know if fresh and had no additives.. dont get me wrong i mean i did get some of the desserts in jar or is i was out i might just feed from that but mainly was home made. When you introduce something new wait for 3 days to see if theres a reaction to it.. if not hten move on to the next vege.
Depends how strict you are too... i mean i know someone who started feeding her child a biscuit mashed with a bit of water at 10wks!!! Now i for one wouldnt do that... i wait at least 15wks. You'll love it too... its so adorable watching them try new foods. oh and just because baby's eating doesnt mean you cut out their milk.. keep that up also. Good luck :)

Usually pediatricians recommend starting foods after 6 months but that will be along with milk. The thought being your baby would be less receptive to developing allergies after that age. There is a specific diet plan for babies as to cereal mixed with milk to start, then cereal with applesauce and milk, then other baby fruits, then veggies, and then meats. Please check with your pediatrician as to his take on the food pyramid and if you dont like jar food (I didnt for my girls, you can make your own).

depends on your baby's development but if he is an extra hungry baby and milk doesnt seem to satisfy him then u can start giving small amounts of solids at 4 months but u should check it out with your health visitor or doctor first as 6 months is the more accepted time

The World Health Organisation used to say 4 months but last year they changed it to 6 months.
My health visitor still advises 4 monthsas she thinks 6 months is far too late. She photocopied all her old leaflets telling you what to give at each stage from 4 months but she hands out the correct leaflets too!
I started my son on baby rice at 15 weeks cos he had started to wake up during the night. My daughter is 15 weeks old today but she is happy enough on formula still but I will start her on the baby rice in the next 4 or 5 weeks
