He has all these opportunities to talk to me but he just doesn't. He prefers to keep his distance. PS we were reasonably close before

Maybe he is having a personal problem and it is not you. Maybe he needs his space. Men are weird sometimes.

Without know a LOT more about the both of you, and your situation, it wouuld be a bit difficult to really say. Based on what info you've given I'd say either he doesn't want your relationship to progress or he thought you were getting closer than he wanted.

It sounds like he fears the feeling he has cause maybe he has a bad ex in his past life.I think he was hurt so he thinks it would happen again.

Maybe he's busy with work and is sort of concentrating on not losing his job. Or maybe his mom or dad is real sick and he doesnt want to talk

Maybe he thinks you're interested in him and he's trying to tell you he's not interested back

vice versa: he might like you but he's really shy about it?
