Is it worth it to switch from a PPO to an HMO if an employee will gain an additional $200 per paycheck upon making the switch? Are the limitations in a HMO plan a reason not to make the switch? Will I have to keep changing doctors because they will drop the HMO plan at some point?

I work in medical insurance at a hospital...from experience I would say no..it's not worth it. PPO plans cover so much more that HMO plans. HMO plans are a real pain when you need to see a specialist or have a procedure authorized. If I were you, I would stick with a PPO. I have an HMO because it's cheaper and I hate it! You would think I would have learned my lesson since I deal with HMO companies all day long..lol. You probably won't have to keep changing doctors if you do choose to go with the HMO though. Most doctors that I know and work for are all contracted with the major HMO plans. They get their money no matter what anyway. Hope that helps.

No it is not worth switching it at all. A ppo will cover alot more, the only pain in the gazumba is that you need a referral for everything, but that's nothing comparing to an HMO coverage. They don't cover much and when they do you still come out paying more. So stick with the PPO, sometimes it pays to pay a little more. Good Luck.
