Hi. I know almost zilch about cars. I want to find a diagram online that shows what parts are under the hood, in general. Right now I need one that is a general "blueprint) of a car. Later I need to find one for my specific car...

That may be hard to find. Most automakers keep there designs secret. But for a generic gasoline engine try: http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=internal+combustion+engine&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8
Basically, You have the power parts of the engine: Pistons,Crankshaft, Cylinders, Block, Cams, Heads, and exhaust.
To run these parts they need to be fueled, sparked, oiled and cooled.
Fuel - Carburator or injectors and fuel pump
Spark - Battery, Master Coil, Spark Plug, Alternator
Oil - Pump, filter and oil
Cooled - Radiator, Antifreez/Antiboil, Water Pump, Thermostat,
