I want to get something that my little sister will really like. Any ideas, what would a three year old like for Christmas?

Just looked up the barbie laptop, looks pretty cool. She might lose interest in it though. I don't know, maybe.

She loves My Little Ponies, but she already has a ton of them.

She has all the art materials that she could ever want because I live in a family of artists.

This is hard to answer without knowing what kinds of things she likes...sesame street, barney, my little pony? Try a theme related toy that you know she will atleast like the character. Like if she likes Elmo, you could get her the tickle me Elmo or something similar, she is three if she regonizes what she likes, it won't matter what the toy actually does! However, I do hope you steer away from Barbie or Bratz...those toys are not good ideas for a little one, she can't grasp the concept of a barbie doll or any other toy similar to that image, and the Bratz, I just hate them, little skanky girlly dolls, do you want your sister liking THAT???
How about go to Toys R us and check out what they have for 3 and older toys. Make sure the age group is correct, small parts for little hands are NOT good.
If you want to really get her mind working, try any baby einstein toys, or the discovery store toys...something that is educational and fun.
p.s. going on experience here, toys that are soft and very interactive are the best....some sort of ball game that plays music or maybe a book with pop ups?

I found the Barbie Laptop was too advanced for 3 yrs old, really - if it's the same one I got for my niece a few years ago. I will show you what I got for my 3 yr old daugther, if you are interested:

This is the main event for Lily:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2331544

I also got her this because she loves space stuff and is very good at puzzles:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2518742

I also got her a My Little Pony Software & DVD combo - and there's a ton of pony stuff out there: http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=my%20little%20pony&origkw=my%20little%20pony&f=Taxonomy/TRUS/2254197

I will also say there is a product recall on magnetic Polly Pocket (a big fav with my kids, but strictly off the list this year).

Games are great for this age range. My 3yr old can't cope with Candy Land quite yet, but matching games are great, Elefun and Hi Ho Cheerio and the Honey Bee Tree are great - Hungry Hungry Hippos too. The best part about the board games as a gift for a small child is the time you invest playing with them.

Peace!

PS - oh yeah Play doh is a big favorite in my house.

Yeah... i admit - i do.. I have the means to be able to do so. (money and good budgetting skills) She is our only child, and quite possibly may be our ONLY ever child (we both dont really want any more kids) And this yr is her first christmas. then Jan 13th her first birthday!! Awesome, i can go to the after christmas salles and get her even more stuff!!! :D But we have got her about... 15presents. Some huge ones (baby piano thingy, a 3-in-1 trike to bike (from 10months old) And a toy ride on horse and cart.. plus a lot more. If she is an only child, we will certainly try our best to buy her millions of things at bdays/ chrissy. If we have any more childre, then we just may down size a bit. But i personally think, if you can spoil them, then why not :) ill probs get TD for my answer. lol

Three years old is such a cool age! Most kids aren't jaded by then, but they're old and mature enough to be able to do different stuff safely. Some random ideas:

A Candyland game

Bubbles from Gymboree (These are totally cool sugar/gelatin-based bubbles that last a loooong time and make jillions of bubbles each time you blow.)

Either some Play-Doh and Play-Doh tools or, if she feels she's too old and sophisticated for that, go by a crafts store and pick up some polymer clay. There are also tools for working polymer clay, things like clay guns. You'll have to judge whether your sister has the manual dexterity to be able to operate them safely or at all.

Age-appropriate jewelry-making kits, so she can make her own necklaces and bracelets. (You'll have to judge whether she's old enough to string beads and so forth yet.)

Hand puppets. If you have a CostCo membership, they often have different sets of four puppets for around $7-8.

Craft/art kits, either purchased or ones you make. For instance, you could combine a glue stick and a pack of different colors of tissue paper so she could make colorful collages.

Dress-up materials - hats, accessories, and a mirror so she can pretend to be different people.

Bathtub or sand toys - Sand toys may be hard to find around Christmas, but there should be plenty of cool bath toys available. Throw in a big bottle of Mr. Bubble, and you've got yourself a good time.

An easel, a roll of paper, and crayons or paints - Child-sized easels are often expensive, but if you live near an Ikea, they have them for around $20. Their rolls of paper are around $7; sometimes you can find that cheaper elsewhere.

For more ideas, go into a library or bookstore and look up "toys" in the back of "What to Expect: the Toddler Years". They have a whole list of toy ideas in there.

Have fun! I know your sister will, particularly since you're so thoughtful.

You can always go with things like Dora the explorer, you can do coloring books the ones that you can't color any where but on the paper, most kids loved stuffed animals, but i believe the best gift of all that she would like would be spending time with her big sister maybe take her to a petting zoo or a walk buy her a balloon is there anything that she needs that always works too

Love 'n licks puppy, Fairy Wishes Dora, Hide-N-Seek Hayley, the Cars DVD. Those are the things my 4 year old wants... would think they would interest a 3 year old as well.

Take her out to a casual restaurant. She will probably enjoy spending time with you in such a fascinating place. You might make her feel like a big girl. My little girl who turned 4 yesterday enjoys this when her mother and I take her out to eat as a special gift.

Some great storybooks that you can read with her, OR
Art supplies--Paper, paint (water colors), clay (not play dough), glue, crayons, colored pencils, stickers, rubber stamps and washable ink. And then give her the best gift of all--your time as you show her how to create with the materials!

probably the newest toy advertised on tv. Why not sit down with her on Saturday morning and watch her watch cartoons. It will be easy to pick which toy she really wants.
