Or, do you know anyone whose family had huge blowups over a pet? What did you/they do? Did a family member move out/divorce?I realize everyone has minor disagreements over pets....such as whose turn to walk the dog, etc...I am wondering about ongoing arguments over a pet.

I think there are so many more important things to focus on in a relationship. If a pet is what comes between you, the bond was never very strong.

My daughter had two mini dachshunds and she and I argued over them for three years until I finally had enough. She was 11 when she got them and never took care of them. For three years, they had "accidents" in the house, barked non-stop, chewed up my rugs and furniture, and bit me when I tried to reprimand them. I finally told her that if she wanted to keep them, I would have a doggie door installed from her room to the back yard and she could keep them in there with her all the time.

She felt this would be too mean, as she is gone a lot and they would get lonely. The funny thing is, I really liked those darn dogs, in spite of all their bad habits. I found them a very good home with an older lady who takes them to work with her everyday (she owns her own business). I told her all of their bad habits and she said, "Oh, I know. They're dachshunds!"

Anyway, my daughter is now 16 and is still sad at times about missing her little babies, and often asks if she can get another dog. I told her she can get as many dogs as she wants after she leaves home. She started taking antidepressants after I gave them away because she was so sad and could not get over it.

Yes! My parents went CRAZY! I can't even stand talking to them cuz they just whine and complain about the other person. My step sis came home with a cat. My dad is allergic. She had to move out but my dad is living at his office due to ...get this....remaining "dander" that is "killing" him. He blames the girl and his wife for allowing her to come home for (3 weeks mind you) with the treacherous cat. I wish he would just take some meds and get over it...unfortunatly...the only answer is getting rid of the cat and not the step sis (who's not allowed anymore) But she won't listen...so she moved to LA....I think pet's are not for everyone.
