A hero is a person whose actions work to the benefit of society, not only physically but psychologically and philosophically as well. In other words, a hero not only has to act in a manner that solves a problem but their actions must inspire similar beneficial acts in others. A hero cannot be divorced from the legacy they leave.

Actually in mythological terms, Hero has a very strictly defined meaning--it is a person with one mortal and one divine parent.

That's it.

People who became Heroes had certain qualities because they were Heroes, rather than being Heroes for having certain qualities. Their actions and exploits were to a certain extent pre-ordained--a son of Zeus couldn't finish school, become an accountant and settle down with a wife and kids, even if that's what he wanted. Instead he was pre-ordained to a life of battle, adventure and heroic exploits.

A hero is a person who can make the right decision, and if they have made a poor decision they can accept the consequences. They are brave and unselfish, always willing to give a helping hand to people who need it, and they are a person who will stand up for what is right. A hero is someone who is caring and never gives up no matter how tough it might get. Heroes are not people who have super-human strength, super speed or the ability to shoot beams from their eyes. They are just average people that care about human life and how fragile it really is.

Well, Heroes should put themselves in danger to help others- and expect nothing in return.
But sometimes Heroes don't have time to choose or think about their actions. It's what they decide in those split-second instances that count.
