It depends on which version you read.

The King Arthur stories are legend/folklore. This means they were orignally oral tales passed down through the generations. They have been interpreted repeatedly in print, but there is no "official" version. Nor is there much archaeological proof that any of the characters actually existed.

Your question is impossible without a qualifier, like "According to Mallory, there were X knights of the round table."
