In my opinion, it is by far Rush's Neil Peart. I have never seen someone play the way he can.

I gotta go with Neil Peart too. Love Rush, and being a chick, the lines for the bathrooms at the shows are very short.

keith moon is the greatest. no question about it. manic and precise but not a showoff.
neil peart is a showoff. yea yea yea, we get it. you can play drums. okay, no need for 20 minute drum solos that go nowhere. rush are the biggest dork rock band ever. i got free tix to see them back in 1998. the concert was about 95% men. i have never been to a show with that many dudes. what was worse was these guy where playing the card game magic on the lawn before the show. clearly rush fans aren't getting laid too often.
the best drummer duo though are bill kreutzman and mickey hart from the grateful dead. they put on a hella of a drum solo

Neil Peart of Rush.

Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater and Martin Deller of FM (Can) are also phenomenal drummers.

Ginger Baker (Cream and others). Otherwise, John Bonham (check out "Moby Dick" on "Zeppelin II"), followed by Neil Peart.

Neil Pert and/or Keith Moon. I've always thought Neil Pert was the best. He also has some really good poetry.

Hal Blaine, session man without peer.
Then maybe Earl Palmer, Keith Moon, and Charlie Watts.

Keith Moon of The Who.

Very clean, 2/4 meter. Capable of complexity without sounding confused.

Died young, very sad.
