Its a quarterback that will help your team for many years to come. Carson Palmer is still pretty young, he's an example of a franchise quarterback, he helped put the Bengals back on the map.

A franchise QB or player is a player that you want to keep for a long time, because they are good players that will help the team win, and sell tickets, and therefore make more money for the franchise (the team, the owners, etc.) Everyone is probably saying Vince Young will be a franchise player but im still not sold on him, just because he is having a hot streak...But i think Matt Leinart could be a great QB and after all he does have a higher completion pct. 56.2 and a higher QB rating 73.9 and has 467 more passing yards in 1 less start than Young....Young is just being recongnized because his team is on a win streak, dont get me wrong he is playing well to but everyone is giving him to much credit for the wins, i think anyways

It means a quarterback you can build your franchise around. For example a Drew Brees or Carson Palmer are young excellent quarterbacks who will be with the team a long time. That position will be the last thing you need to replace until they finish their careers. Now, you just need to build your team around those guys (receivers, runningbacks and O-line).

it means you can build a team around him, and hes one of your best players. an example is peyton manning, or michael vick
