Hunter, you should do your own homework.
Principal P= 2 l + 2 w
we know l= w+9
so 2 l = 2 w +18
and 50 = 4 w + 18
So w = 8
l =17

Hello
first the forula for the perimeter of a rectangle is :
P = 2L = 2 w
in your case :
50 cm = 2L = 2w
but we do't know what the length andwidth are yet do we ???? Hummmmm/
....
Let " x " = the width then x =9 = the length
50 = 2 ( x + 9 ) + 2 ( x )
4x + 18 = 50
-18 -18
4x = 32
------ -----
4 4
x = 8
x + 9 = 17
to chec
2 ( 8 ) + 2 ( 17 ) = 50
16 + 34 = 50
50 = 50

Let L be the lenght and W be the width.
L+B+L+B = 50
L= B+9
B+9 +B +B+9 +B = 50
4B+18 = 50
4B=50-18
B=32/4 = 8
L = 8+9 = 17

perimeter = 50 cms
i.e 2 (L + B) = 50cms----- 1
Now L = B + 9--------------- 2
substitute eq 2 in eq 1
2 (B + 9 + B) = 50
2B + 9 = 25
2B = 25 - 9
2B = 16
B = 8
substitute value of B in eq 2
L = 8 + 9
L = 17
therefore, length is 17 cm and width is 8 cms

If you are looking for a solution, here it is:
Let P = perimeter
Let W = width
Let L = length
Given:
P = 50 cm
L = W + 9
Then:
P = 2W + 2L
P = 2W + 2(W + 9)
P = 2W + 2W + 18
P = 4W + 18
4W = 50 - 18
4W = 32
Therefore: W = 8 cm
Since L = 8 + 9
Therefore: L = 17 cm

u just need to know that opp sides of a rect are equal.
So, 2W + 2L = P
it is given that L = W + 9
P = 50
Plug these in main P equation above, u will get L=17, W=8 cm
