My step-sisters last name is Spiker and she just got into med school.

She does not want to be Dr. Spiker. Ick.

She is considering Dr. Aeoyin (pronounced A-oh-in) What do you think?

What are some other good last names for doctors? No, not Dr. Hackemoff.

Her first name is Sheila, and yep Aeoyin does sound like the name from Lord of the Rings.

Something easy to pronounce and remember, something dependable, maybe not Aeoyin. It's hard to remember the doctor's name in a time of crisis, and I'm not sure patients will be able to remember that!

Maybe using a last name that makes people calm like:
Greenwell

Just my take on things!

Tell your sister not to worry about it my sister is a dentist and she married a gentleman with the last name believe it are not Doctor!!!!

She is for all intent and purposes Dr. Doctor. People get a kick out of it and before she sold her practice and merged with another practice she had a cute little sign in from of her office and also a great add in the local phone book.

Her unique name gave her the edge in the dental field I would say to your sister use your name as an edge it will generate a lot of interest from patients and she might even get a article in the news paper and people will remember her if nothing else!

good luck to your sister and if all else fails have her change her last name to Doctor

She should stick with Spiker - if she just started med school, her name is not going to be the worst worry on her list.

Heck, my kids had a Dr. Needle, my dad's podiatrist was Dr. Finger.

If she's working with kids she can just call herself Dr. Spike - sounds cool. Parents would rather hear that name than Dr. "MayIPresentMyBill".

I don't really see anything wrong with Spiker. I think the Aeoyin name might get mispronounced a lot. I think names that are warm and simple are best for doctors.

If I was choosing from a list of doctors, Aeoyin would not be my first choice.

Soo ... I looked and found New York State's physician index. I searched the letters SPI (because you have to have at least three letters to search) and I found these. Which sound okay for a doctor. Here's the link to the search engine, in case you think this is a good idea.

Dr. Sheila SPIEGEL?
Dr. Sheila SPILLER?
Dr. Sheila SPINELLI?
Dr. Sheila SPINNATO?
Dr. Sheila SPIRO?
Dr. Sheila SPITZ? (ha! Sheila Spitz)

That could be a good source. Ask what other letters she might like it to start with (I just went with the ones her name currently starts with ... not too big a change) and punch them in. See what doctors already exist with names like that.

Her last name isn't going to determine what kind of doctor she is and the name Dr. Spiker isn't going to deter patients from coming to get treatment from her. Tell her to keep it! It sounds good to me, and maybe one day she'll get married and have a different name.

How about Dr. Striker?

It's similar to Spiker and she can keep her initials the same.
