multiply the number from the bottom of the fraction [denominator] by the whole number then add the number that was on top [numerator] and then simply place it over 100.

Divide the numerator by the denominator. 1 and 1/4 is 4/4 + 1/4 = 5/4 then divide 5 by 4 which equals 1.25.. The reason why on computers that fractions are represented in the same manner as division is that fractions are a representation of division. Also, think of the word fraction, which means a part of a whole, and think the word division, splitting a whole into parts. A fraction of something is also a division of something.

the easiest way to do this i would say is by first changing the mixed number into an "inproper fraction"
so 1 and 1/4 would become 5/4
now that you have 5/4 i would use the calculator to find out the exact decimal place.

if you are not allowed to use a calculator, then you can make the denomenator 100 (by multiplying by 25), but you have to multiply the numerator as well.

so you would have 5/4 = 125/100
now that you have a fraction with 100 as the denomenator you can take the numerator and move the decimal place (which is currently at the end --> "125.0000" ) over (to the left) two places. so 125.00 will become 1.25
and that is your answer.

You divide 4 by 1. After you put the 4 on the outside (1on the inside), you add a zero or two & work out the problem. Do'nt forget your decimal! Then you just put your whole number in front of the decimal. Answer will look like 1.25.

1 and 1/4 would be 1.25 as a decimal.

Change the mixed number into a vulgar (improper) fraction...

1 1/4 = 5/4

You know that 1/4 = .25

Multiply the .25 times 5 = 1.25

1 and 1/4 is really 5/4 because you multipy the denominator with the whole number. Then divide 4 by 5, because you divide the nominator by the denominator. The ansser is 1.25 Easy way to remeber is divide top by bottom.

you don't need to change to improper fraction at all! Just do the fraction part: 1/4 is

1 divided by 4 = 0.25
And just add the whole number part which was 1.
So 1.25

If you had 1000 & 7/8, and you converted to improper faction, it would be messy... just do 7 divided by 8 which is 0.875 and add 1000. So your answer would be 1000.875
Easy isn't it???
