if you mean equations like this: x²-x+4

then use this equation: ( -b ± √(b²-4ac)) ÷ (2a)

for the equation above a = 1, b = -1, and c = 4

best way to solve them is

x = (-b ± sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)

if your function is in ax^2 + bx + c = 0 form.
