Modus Opperandi(sp) or
Method of Operation.

Basically means that a criminal has a style of what they do, whether its use of the same weapon or follows the same routine with each victim

i.e. A serial killer always follows a victim for 2 days before the kill, and when he strikes he severs their achilles tendon, and removes their liver, which they later eat. Then waits exactly 3 days before killing again.

If the cops see that pattern, and find 3 victims each 3 days apart in death, with the same missing Liver and severed achilles, chances are if a 4 th victim shows up on schedule, they would assume that #4 is the victim of the same killer as 1-3.

Means of operation.
For instance, Jeffrey Domer's MO was eating people. Had the police come across an extra body that had been nibbled on around the time they were investigating him, it would be safe to say that he was responsible because thats his unique MO.

MO stands for "modus operandi", which loosely translates to "mode of operation". It describes someones habits/style/patterns of behavior.

It means "modus operandi" or literally mode of operation. In other words a killer or thief has a certain set of habit or traits associated with his crimes like leaving behind tell tale signs. This term is most often used to describe one who does habitual crimes (like a serial killer) or a rapist, etc.. His M.O. is his/her "signature" for the crime.
