I'm currently studying body language, so I can say that much more is said through body language than words. You may say one thing but your body will say something totally different. You're on the right track on whatever you're studying because you will be concious of a language that most guys aren't fully aware of.
Women are up to 10 TIMES better at reading body language then men are. Its in a woman's genes to be totally tuned into reading body language 24/7. The average male rates about a 2 at decoding body language while women average a 8-9. Women are good a seeing small details!
Not only dose your body language speak words, but it shows what is in your subconcious mind, and displays your personality. However, if you read someone's body, it may not mean the same thing to someone else. What you can do is read in what is called clusters, several signs that shows someon's intentions or feeling.
With body language, you're speaking even when you aren't speaking at all. You're allways saying something.

well verbal communication, you can tell a lot of lies you can try to cover up something or even change a particular topic you don't waana converse but your body language cannot be modified. Your eyes, your facial expressions can clearly show you are lying. the way you fidget with your fingers clearly show you are nervous. Your facial expression can show whether you are happy or sad. Two lovers dont need to verbally say 'I love you' it shows in their eyes, the way they hold their hands. So i feel body language expresses a great deal more than verbal communication.

verbal communication is adressed by the conscious mind to another conscious mind. body language is mostly a subliminal way of communicating thus it is perceived by the subconscious mind. It is a grave communications error that however has become a golden rule, meaning to consciously direct your body language . Although it sounds only logical to do so, we usually end up with all these male and female geeks that daily invade the business world or the media acting their superfluous body language and mannerisms, thinking it is making them look great and special, aiming at recalling in order to manipulate their colleagues, audience etc. It's a dirty yet immensely stupid world out there if you ask me

I think a lot more is done with body language than with words. You can tell a person's mood, sincerity, attitude, and any number of other things by body language; if it contradicts what they're saying, most of us instinctively go with body language because we know it's reliable.

Body language is very much part of any verbal conversation or communication of ideas! It is indeed hard to pinpoint how much of each in terms of per centage!

It breaks down roughly like this:
~7% - the words themselves (the only actual communication in email, for example)
~23% - voice inflection
~70% - body language
Those numbers may be SLIGHTLY off, but are pretty much accurate. I've been given these numbers numerous times in sales courses.
