Look up segregation distorter's. How these " selfish " genes distort the segregation process to give themselves an advantage into the next generation. There are distorter's who are lethal by not being in a gamete, that gametes without them die and they are driven to preponderance. Sometimes as much as 90%, of the surviving gametes.

It's pretty interesting to me to try to figure out the genetic history of my family, and what it could be like in the future. Did one of your parents ahve any recessive genes, or one of you grandparents or great-grandparents? Then there is a chance that you carry that gene- what would happen if you were able to (hypothetically) have children with your best friend, your second cousin, your crush?

Pedigree analysis can be pretty cool. Predicting probabilities of disorders and mapping inheritance patterns... Sometimes it's like solving a puzzle. Human genetics is interesting, too - there are all sorts of wacky disorders. It's a wonder anyone turns out normal and fully functioning!
