The idle RPM is the revolutions per minute the engine turns when the transmission is in neutral and no throttle is being applied. This can be either the "cold" idle or the "hot" idle, depending on whether the engine is cold or warmed up. If the idle RPM is too high, that means too much gas is going to the engine and bringing your gas mileage down. It also means that some gas is not being burned and carbon deposits are forming on your spark plugs. Lastly, the engine will not completely warm up and your power, effeciency and mileage will suffer. (It may also cause a back-fire when you turn off the engine.) The recommended idle RPM varies from bike to bike, but it is usually around 750 to 1000.

Higher RPMs mean worse gas mileage. If your bike is idling at 1500 RPM, it will use more gas than idling at 1000 RPM.

The term R.P.M. denotes revolutions per minute of the engine. It is generally close to 1000-15000rpm of ant indian motorcycle and definately rises when the engine is hot and lowers if the engine is cold. The more you pull the throttle, the more r.p.m.s will rise.
