Battery is brand new and charged, starter was just replaced. All accessory power works. Cannot jump it. When ignition is turned it doesn't even try to turn over, just a quick "click" then nothing.

Well, turns out it was the neutral safety switch (and a bad starter AutoZone sold me). Put the old starter on, and if it doesn't crank in park, I put it in neutral and it seems to work. Any thoughts on fixing the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS)???

This happened to our 1994 Lincoln Towncar this summer. We found out that the fuel(I think its called fuel injection?) wasn't getting to the rest of the car . It cost us about $800 to fix. Good Luck...

Check that the terminal are tight and not cracked Then you'll need to check the wiring to make sure power is getting to the starter. Use a dvom (If you don't know what this is the job is over your head have it towed to a shop) to check for 12 volts on the main battery line to the starter . Now check for 12 volts on the solenoid trigger wire ( The smaller wire to the starter ) when someone tries to start the car.Now check that your battery ground is good . follow the ground wire from the battery to the engine block . Making sure it clean and tight. If both there then you are going to have to check the resistance in the lines to the starter. You may have power to the starter but too much resistance in the wires. Resistance should be next to nothing on the main power wire form the battery to the starter. One thing you can try is tapping the starter with a hammer TAP it while someone tries to start the car
Good luck hope I helped

i own a repair shop, and i see by the answers they didn't read all the question,, you said it has juice in it,and everything is new right,,so you also said it wont jump over either ,,did you try jumping it at the solenoid switch to see if the starter will turn over,,if you have tried this, its time to check the main ground wire on it,,make sure it is grounding real good ,and then try jumping the two post at the starter to make it turn over,,if it don't turn over at this point you have got a bad starter on it,,either that or the neutral safety switch is completely out on it,,but jumping it at the starter will by pass the safety switch on it,,if it don't turn over then ,it has to be the starter on it,,because that's shooting strait power to it,,,that's all it could be,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s..,,have a good x-mas.

Take a really good look at the batt cables and power connections under hood. You must REALLY have alot of miles on that thing as I had a couple of those roller chain 318's with over 200k miles and never needed a chain.

Hi there.
is it a single click or a series of clicks?

starter or solenoid may be bad. you can try bypassing the solenoid to crank the engine. if the bypass cranks it, then its the solenoid.

we can go from there. Let me know if you need anything else. you can email me directly at wgarrison@logixautoparts.com

Hope this helps. if you need any parts.. give me a yell logixautoparts.com -- we are cheaper than all the "big" stores.

The battery cable where it goes into the lead clamp is probably bad.Swish it around in baking soda and water.I've had it happen several times.Turn lights on. Then hit starter.Click, lights go out. That means bad connection
