It means plated with 10k. Beneath the gold is some other metal, probably brass.

the inside of the ring is probably plastic, but it's covered in a ten karat gold shell, which means it looks and feels like a real gold ring, but it's a lot less expensive because there's less real gold in it.

it means that the ring is just plated....covered in gold, that it isn't solid all the way through...I'm thinking of getting mine titanium plated....my wedding ring that is...

I would guess it means a thin plating. Which in that case, it will turn your' finger green.
