I just wanted to say try chanting. Medications are a temporary fix. People are depressed and in anxiety because they do not know the purpose and true meaning of life. This world is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery. One should learn the actual process to real happiness. The quickest and easiest way to become free from all suffering and illusion is to chant the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance. no meds ever helped me but this Mantra did. (tried and true) go to krishnaculture. read Chant and Be Happy with George Harrison.

At first I was taking 0.5mg 'as needed' when ever I had anxiety or a panic attack. The big test came when I went away for a few days because I have massive panic attacks dealing with returning home after being away for awhile. I'm always afraid of what I'll come home to. The doctor told me to take 2 pills a day, each day I was away and take them as needed while on the return trip home. I started panicking about 6 hours before I got home and it only got worse as each hour passed. I ended up having to take about 5 pills (2.5mg) for it to calm me down at all. I was still very scared when I got to my front door but I didn't have the physical symptoms I usually have like shaking, chills, crying, hyperventilation, racing heartbeat, vomiting, etc.. I was walking a bit slower and I felt mildly drugged which was a good feeling. It was weird, but I felt like talking to strangers for some reason (but I didn't)

I'm also on 20mg of Lexapro for depression and my doctor recently told me to take two 0.5mg of Aitvan a day now because the depression has been out of control again and I have uncontrollable suicidal feelings (I'm not actually going to do it) and waves of despair. The Ativan seems to keep my brain from having spiraling out of control thoughts which leave me feeling like I want to die.

It just works as a sedative so I think my brain gets a little sleepy and just doesn't spazz out. It doesn't exactly make me tired but if I lay down on my bed I will fall asleep really fast where normally I can lay there for hours and not be able to sleep because bad thoughts keep me awake. If I push it and take a third pill, I notice I may have a tiny but of trouble waking totally straight and I'm a little uncoordinated. I do things like make a lot more typos when I'm typing fast, things like that. Again, I'm able to stay awake but if I lay down I will fall asleep within 5-10 minutes. I've been noticing I have a headache today but I'm not sure if that's from the Ativan or not.
