Add the total number of marbles.
2+3+4=9 There are 9 total marbles
There are 3 total white marbles, therefore there is a 3 in 9 chance of drawing a white marble. 3/9 can also be reduced to 1/3

The total number of marbles is 9 and the possibility of drawing a white one is 3 out of 9 so if you reduce that it would be 3/9 = 1/3.

OK kid, let me walk you through this ...
count ALL the marbles: you get 2+3+4=9
now count the WHITE marbles: 3
probability of drawing a white marble is 3 out of 9
(chance of getting one of the 3 white marbels out of 9 total)
3 out of 9 is the same as 1 out of 3 so the probability is 1/3

Let A = event of obtaining a white marbles
S = Sample Space
n(A) = 3
n(S) = 2+3+4 = 9
P(A) = n(A) / n(S)
= 3/9
= 1/3

Probability is:
3 divided by (2 + 3 + 4)
possibility of the event you're interested in / total number of possibilities
= 3/9
= 1/3
