The dead eyes, the menacing beak, the monotone drone in their voice.....eyugh!! I never understood why these weird little freaks ever became a "must have" toy some years back...

When I had one and it had been dead for about three years so it just sat on my shelf collecting dust. then all of a sudden at 2am it starts talking! it scared me half to death! my brother had to throw it out for me. ....so yes they are creepy.
i guess it's just whatever toys kids like that make them so popular, whatever is appealing to kids. but they scare the crap out of me! lol

I think people of our generation are because they remind us of 'Gremlins' - right before they underwent the change. Besides this there is a number of things fairly wrong about them... interactive soft toys were the foundation of an entire horror genre in the eighties and they definitely creep me right out. Were I to have one in my vicinity, I'd definitely try desperately not to spill any water on it.

Yes. My daughter (21) has one in her room and one morning we both looked at it and it's eyes were closed. Then about 15 or 20 minutes later, she called me into her room and it's eyes were open! She had not been inter-acting with it in months and it had not been talking or anything, its eyes were just open. Brrrrrrrr, gives me the creeps. Those darn things are the spawn of the devil.

I know what you mean. Take one of those "cute," "harmless" things and enlarge it to the size of a small skyscraper and you've got your next Godzilla. It's definitely a mutant monster and would be at home in any cheap horror film.
