So I was walking into my college building one day to head to my classes and as I was walking through the doors, these kids starting laughing and joking about something, and I'm basically positive they were making fun of me. So my question is, how do you keep your head held high, and deal with this kind of confrontation? I literally wanted to turn around and teach them a little lesson.

Also, how do you deal with people making fun of you or insulting you?

Yes it is true that Martial Arts gives you self confidence , and self control. Like the other gentleman said. But I don't recommend you run down to the nearest Martial Arts school for this reason..I myself have a 2nd Degree Black belt in Wing Chung. The chances are that they probably didn't even notice you. You have to have self confidence, and think positive all the time. And if they were joking about you, it just means they lack the self confidence. You will run into this and these type of situations your whole life, The thing thats inportant is how you choose to deal with them. Always keep your head-up, But NEVER back down from any one, or anything......Keep your head in the books, don't be looking all around to see if peole are looking or talking about you. Chances are they don't even know your there....

Working in retail i've been in numerous situations where customers get abusive towards me, and while I'm being paid to assist customers and be polite towards them, I'm not being paid to take such abuse. Faced with this dilemma I've found the best response is to look unimpressed and then calmly turn my back and walk away. This has knocked the wind out of more than one blowhard's sails. Anger is something that grows if you feed into it, so if someone confronts you and get angry back it's just going to escalate. If someone tries something physical there is really nothing you can do but defend yourself, but until that point just acting like you're above it all and refusing to participate in the confrontation works quite well. People feel pretty stupid yelling at thin air.

I know it can be hard, but best to try and ignore it, and not let it bother you. When I was younger I would get violent, but I have learned that only causes more problems, like jail time or being sued cause you broke their jaw when you hit them....Not a good path to go down. Just ignore them, they will eventual go away, from my experience in college is that the class clowns are usually the ones that drop out and you wont have to think about them except when they ask you "May I take your order" lol

You can not. Being untouchable means not being alive.
One thing to tell you:it shell pass. May be next time you see them
start laughing. More likely you are wrong and they were not
laughing at you. You will be surprised at how little people think
of anybody but themselves.

Take up something like martial arts so that you develop the confidence to not be affected by the silliness of others.
