this is a great question!
i would open up a bank account for someone who is poor and show them the meaning of saving to get things you want. i would then double it weekly until there was enough for them to get off the streets. i would put them up until that time but this would give them a start. 1.69 to start the next week i would put in 3.38. the next week i would put in 8.76 and the next week 17.52 and so on and so on. wow you made me think and i actually had to do math.

~I'd take her and her children to the nearest newspaper office/reporter and get them to do a story on this little family about how this single mother is doing the best she can to take care of her little ones but she only has $1.69 to her name, and what kind of a Christmas is that for these sweet little cutie pies!? And then I would hope that the community would start pouring out their hearts - and wallets to help change their lives. :)

I'd run up to them, pull them into a dark alley, and scream, "THEY'RE COMING, YOU FOOL! RUN! TAKE IT AND RUN!" whilst I shoved $1.69 into their hand/pocket. I would then run away into another dark alley and hide. If they followed me I would point in a random direction and shout, "Holy crap, what's that!?" and run away again.
Hey, no one ever said it had to be a positive change. ;) Plus, I think that everyone's life could stand to be a bit more interesting.
Either that or I'd walk calmly up to them, put my hand on their shoulder, and announce to everyone present, "God has decided to give this person $1.69 as a reward for being a good and cheerful person who does his/her best to help other people. Congratulations." Then I'd give them the money, shake their hand, and walk away.

call you a sucker and go down to the gas station and buy two jumbo hot dogs. they have a 2 dogs for 1.69 deal right now. free chili and cheese.

I would spend it calling information to get Oprah Winfrey's number so she can give me a bunch more money to help out the stranger and then I'd probably pocket it because I am broke right now...

I would go to, eek, K.mart; and buy a pen and some paper, whatever was not used as a fire starter, or toilet paper could be turned into the best short story known the world over.
