I've been there three times. It may not be as great as Texas, but it seems like a nice place. (I've even given some thought to moving there for an internship.) The people in Jackson (as well as statewide,) the historic architecture of Oxford, the cosmopolitan lifestyle in Southhaven, and beautiful beaches along the Gulf.
What do you think of the people, scenery, attractions, and any other personal things you want to add?

I think Mississippi, like any other place, is what you make of it. Yes, we have our bigots but we also have a type of charm that you just can't put a price on. I love it here. The cost of living is low and it's wonderful to have people speak to you on the sidewalk. The only downside to Mississippi is the humidity. Wet heat is disgusting.

My husband's extended family lives there, formerly in Jackson and now in Brookhaven and Brandon. (His father moved his family to Minnesota when my husband was 5.) I find the people charming and there are some very nice areas around Jackson. Mississippi gets dumped on a lot in the national polls (most obese, less education, etc.), but a lot of people make a nice life there.
If you're from Texas maybe you don't mind it, but I find the summers there to be miserably hot. I've been to the equator and I've been to Mississippi and, man, Mississippi was worse!

I live on the coast of Mississippi and I really do love it here,The Jackson area is nice, very busy. There is a lot of southern history here, and for the most part people are very friendly. But just like any where you go there is a lot of rude people also. The beaches really aren't that great now,but as they rebuild I am sure things will be better than ever.Hope you decide to make your move here and everything goes well for you.

When I think of Mississippi I think of the tragedy that caused a great deal of destruction to parts of Mississippi as well as Louisiana....
I also think of how people have stereotyped Mississippi as the worse state to live in health wise and in terms of how well people are educated. I don't know how true these findings are. I have never been there.
I think people from the south are generally more friendly than people here where I live. I have heard of the Southern hospitality...

I live in Oxford and I'm moving to Dallas in January lol. When my family and I moved here in 1992 it was a quaint town, now it's growing so fast and not seeming to get any better. Personally, I dislike Mississippi. Southern hospitality is just their way of saying nice things to your face and talking about you behind your back. It's humid and nasty all the time. Kudzu is cool though. I don't know, I just can't wait to move!

Quiet serenity, friendly people, great fishing, and the best seafood anywhere. The only catch is that whole hurricane thing. Do come back in a decade when we might have everything cleared up on the coast!

I was there a couple of years ago around Hattiesburg. Had a great time. Went canooing down the river, had a crawfish boil party, went down to Biloxi and it was a good time but it was HOT and HUMID!

just have to say about what i said about kentucky. beautiful places, great people. are all places great in any state, no. but if you open yourself to the beauty it is there everywhere. if you accept people and blend in instead of trying to change a place you will see wonders.
