There is no need to make any settings to show the USB icon on the task bar. When you connect the USB to your computer the icon will automatically appear on the task bar.

If it is not appearing, then you would have install the driver for the USB. Go to google and search for the driver giving the USB company name. eg. "samsung USB driver".

If you have WinXP or Win2000, then there is no need to install the driver, it will automatically detect the USB.

If you still have problem, then you have to update your computer with the service pack.

i am not sure if you want to show the usb icon or the "safely remove hardware" notification. if you are referring to the later then go to taskbar properties, click customize button against the "hide inactive icons"
