Nah, Colin Powell should hold that historical first not Barack Obama.

Yes. If anyone has the charisma and appeal to be the first, it's him. I think Colin Powell has become too tainted (fairly or unfairly) because of his connection to the unpopular Bush White House and Iraq war.

Right now, if Obama chose to run, considering the bad shape Republicans are in with no strong candidates, considering Osama's popularity and clean record giving him the possibility of overcoming Clinton's money advantage, considering that Clinton is his lone strongest opponent among the Democrats, I think Obama could take it in '08. He might never be in a better position.

It will be too bad if Clinton and Obama emerge as the top candidates for the Dems... not because of their stances on the issues but the mere fact that one is a woman and the other is black, and unfortunately this country isn't going to elect either of those 2 types of people. If Clinton or Obama emerged as the Democratic nominee in 2008 I believe that a Republican President is all but guaranteed for '08...even if Bush could run for a 3rd term...sorry to say

I want to see what happens when Hillary and Obama take off the gloves. How funny will it be if Hillary wins the democratic primary? Will he still say he didn't win because of racism? If he loses in the primary to Hillary, it would be the racism of the Democratic party. I will set the vcr so I can watch the comedy unfold over and over again. Might even make some popcorn!

Not in 2008. Maybe the first Black Vice-President.

Maybe. But he faces the challenge of being in the U.S. Senate, and not having a very lengthy political resume. Still, I'd rather see him than Hilary Clinton.

Not likely as he is not very moderate. Mostly, his foreign sounding name will have lots of people refusing to vote for him.
A large number of voters vote without knowing anything about the candidates. They either vote party line or by names they like. There have been several polls that all say foreign names lose over 25% of the usual vote, it was 36% in my county.

I think so, but maybe not in 2008. He might be better off waiting but who knows, he has some momentum going already. Isn't he of mixed race? I don't know if we need to label him as black.
