Does anyone know the origin of this phrase? I know it is used many times to reference american soldiers in europe in WWII

The phrase was popularized by Tommy Trinder (1909-1989), a well-known and well-liked English comedian. His version of the line which, although he gave it wide circulation, was probably coined by someone else, was "overpaid, overfed, oversexed and over here".

I think Lord Chesterfield said, " The only thing bad about American's was that they were overpaid, oversexed and over here."

The soldiers themselves said, "underpaid, undersexed and under Eisenhower".

The GI's used to say in response the Brit's were "Under paid, under sexed and under Ike."
