In note issues, commence with techniques from defining your variable(s) as your answer(s). enable x be the bigger style. enable y be the smaller style. the version between the numbers is 34. for this reason, x - y = 34 the bigger style exceeds 3 situations the smaller with techniques from 4. for this reason, x = 3y + 4 From the first equation, you get x = 34 + y. Plug that into the 2d to get: (34 + y) = 3y + 4 30 = 2y y = 15 Plug that into x = 3y + 4 to get: x = 40 9 The numbers are 40 9 and 15. wish that permits!

Hello this one was real simple ( I love word problems as this one ) So pay attension
Let x = the smaller number hen 3x =4 = the larger number
therefore

x --- ( 3x + 4 ) = 34

x { + } ( - 3x - 4 )

2x + ( - 4 ) = 34

- ( 4 ) _ ( 4 )

2x = 30
----- -------
2 2

x = 15 therefor 3x + 4 = 15 x 3 = 45 + 4

= 49

then check it : 49 - 15 = 34

Not that hard. Let a be the big number and b be the smaller number. Statement #1 becomes
a - b = 34
Statement #2 becomes
a = 3b +4
Direct substitution: (3b+4) - b = 34
Solving: b = 15
Then a = 49

Big#=x; Small#=y
x-y=34
x-3y=4
Combine both equations
(x-y=34)=(x-3y=4)
-x +y = -x +y
-2y=4
+2y +2y
34=2y+4
-4 -4
30=2y
15=y
So plug that into the formula
x-y=34
x-15=34
x=49

Let x and y be the two numbers
x-y = 34
x-3y = 4

subtract second equation from the first
x-x -y-(-3y) = 34-4
or -y+3y = 30
or 2y = 30
or y = 15

x - (15) = 34
x= 34+15= 49
49 and 15

x-y=34
x=y+34
x=3y+4
y+34=3y+4
30=2y
y=15

x=3y+4
x=45+4=49
the numbers are 49 & 15

small # is x
lager # is y
y=3x+4

y-x=34

x= 15

the small number is 15 and sub 15 back in to get larger number.
hope this helps
