I was only 15, so I didn't really understand the seriousness on a global scale. I was (like many ignorant people today) blaming the American government. Up until the Iraq war I felt that way. Then, I realised that we go through a lot of crap as a country to help the world and we get no respect whatsoever. Now I'm proud as hell to be an American.

Hoo Rah

Also, I have been a news junkie ever since

I was thinking that we will probably never feel the same again, and I was right. There's the way we felt before 9/11 and the way we felt after 9/11. One day we think we are safe, the next day we find out that terrorists from far-away places can smash our planes into our buildings. It still blows my mind to think that the whole World Trade Center collapsed. It blows my mind even more to realize that some people in the Middle East actually celebrated when they found out what had happened.

The day after I was still in shock, numbly tracking down my friends and family to make sure they were still alive. We didn't know where my cousin was for a week. My grandmother couldn't get back into her home. Dad was close enough to see the whole attack from his office. I have a stomach ache thinking about the losses.

I will not forget my anger. I want Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dead. Dragged through the streets dead.

I was in shock, not yet feeling any sore of emotion. I went into a safe mode you could say. I had a new husband and a three month old baby. I constantly watched tv the whole day, and was afraid to fall asleep. I wasn't afraid of nightmares, as I was in a panic mode. I was afraid some other part of the country would get bombed in the middle of the night when we didn't expect it. I wanted to see every single second of the news, switching from channel to channel trying to hear every point of view on the subject!!!

I felt empty. I wanted to do something, but was at a loss as to what. A local South Carolina farmer painted a huge sign that hung on his fence near the highway - where everyone could see it - that said "We are all New Yorkers." That's it. For a brief moment in history, we were all one. Pity it took such damage to bring us all together as Americans, and even more sad that it only lasted for such a short time...

I could not stop watching the news for days, all I would do was channel surf for hours between the news stations.

I remeber feeling scared because I knew the world was going to change, and it has. I knew that things were going to get a lot worse before they got better.

Empty. It was if life had switched to slow motion. Nothing felt real. I do remember I felt as one with every human being living in this country. I felt more patriotic than ever before.
