It depends on the extent to which someone uses drugs. An occasional drink, or smoke of marijuana (despite what our government tells us about how horrible it is) isn't going to make you a purse-theiving junkie, but just like any addiction, from sex to smoking, the less you're able to do other things because of your drug use, the more you're going to ruin your life.

It can mess up your brain and take away intelligence as far as narcotics. Phych drugs can do all kinds of things to ones body over time. The thing is we are looking for happiness and drugs are only a temporary fix and their are consequences. Try Chanting the Maha Mantra for relief from all misery and illusion. it depends entirely on what drugs you are on....

for instance if you are on any other drug than marijuana all aspects of quality of life deficit due to drug use is a temporary thing which passes whe drug use ceases.....

If, on the other hand you are on marijuana then the quality of life can be reduced permanently with the onset of drug induced schizphrenia even after ceasing to use marijuana you still have the drug induced scizophrenia, forever!

So any study into the quality of life of drug users would have to be divided into permanent loss of quality and temporary loss of quality of life.

just one more thing to consider when considering drugs.....
