You need to go to the hospital tonight and be evaluated. It doesn't sound like you are in actrive labor yet, but I'm worried about that stomach-ache you mention. At your gestation, you are more likely to have pre-eclampsia, otherwise known as toxemia, than if you were earlier in your pregnancy. One of the signs of pre-eclampsia can be constant epigastic pain (pain around-"epi"- the stomach "gastric"). untreated toxemia can result in seizures for you, or fetal death, or both. I would also want to know if you are having any swelling of the hands, feet , or face that has come on suddenly and does not go away, or a headache, or any spots or other abnormalties with your vision. If you have any of these other sign/symptoms, you defintiely need to call your doctor immediately or just go to the hospital. They will want to monitor your blood pressure, check blood and urine, and monitor the baby's heartrate and for the presence/absence of contractions. Pre-eclampsia can be controlled with proper medications, but the only cure is delivery. Sometimes a C/Section or induced labor is indicated.

Sounds like you are there. I did the same thing with my first. I thought at first I had the worst case of indigestion and gas. Then I thought I may be coming down with a tummy bug and the pain got worse by the minute. But I noticed my tummy getting real tight and asked a friend about it that had babies and she tole me to start timing. So, start timing and call the doctor to see what they think. You must be so excited, congrats on your little bundle of joy.
BTW, with my first, contractions were regular time wise......With my second, they never did get regular....5 min, then 7, then 3 then 1 then 4 then 2....Right up till she was born.

You could very well be in labor, have you felt the baby move today? If you haven't then I think that you need to get to the hospital and get checked, this being your first baby your labor could go on for some time and it's not at all good for you or the baby. Good Luck and God Bless

That definitely sounds like something to tell your doctor. I would call, that's what they are there for. For me, early contractions felt like the baby was pushing out, but in fact my stomach muscles were pushing in. If you are in pain, you definitely need to call.
Contractions are hard to imagine unless you have had them. I wish that there was a way to describe them. When you have them, you will know it. I wish that there was more I could give you on that.
I wish you the best of luck, and no matter what, remember what you will get to take home with you from this ordeal! Women's bodies are made to birth babies, so have faith in that.
Take care!

I know when i started having contractions even the hair on the top of my head rose! They kind of stop you in your tracks ! and are very uncomfortable. If you think you are having those then go in and get checked. the worse they can say is your not :) Good luck and I hope you have a easy labor ! Congrats :)

At 39 weeks it is perfectly normal to go get checked at the hospital or even call your doc. Could be Early labor could, be braxston hicks. If your pains\contractions have been at steady intervals very well could be labor. Go get checked, that's what I would do.
