I have a question for other mothers whose child is lactose intolerant. What did their poops look like be4 u discovered they were lactose intolerant...My daughter is 6 mos old, and we have her on Enfamil ADA DHA calcium enriched, but she has been so constipated...she'll poop this little terd, and then a whole patty o poop, and then a flush of watery stool. I'm wondering if it is because she is lactose intolerant, and if I should switch to Soy base. keep in mind she is only 6 mos old, nad i recently went back to work, so we've put her on formula, Sorry for the details...We DO have a doctors app't for her tomorrow, i was just wondering if any of you have had this happen to you kids be4.. Thanks for answering!

It sounds like your baby is just constipated due to formula. My son has the same problem, he isn't lactose intolerant. My doctor said, with 5 ounces of water add 2 scoops of formula. I asked every time I went to the doctor, he said the same thing, it is just the formula. When she starts solids, she will poop better. ( like green beans and peas help)

I'm not really sure, but I think lactose intolerance is more noticeable with vomitting. She would probably be vomitting more if she was lac intol. The constipation thing could be attributed to too much iron. Ask your doc about that. Too much iron can constipate and that is a horrible thing. Give her lots of prune juice. It will help with the constip. As for the poop thing, it's normal for it to change often even in one day. I have two kids and almost never the same way twice in one day. The poop also changes with her change in feedings. If you are already giving her more solids, her poop will be more solid...oh, and of course it will smell A LOT WORSE!

My Son (12months) is lactose intolerant. He was on reduced lactose formula (Enfamil GentleEase) Which he was fine with. But when I switched him over to whole milk recently, he would cry & cry. I could hear his tummy rumbling, then he would have diarehea. It was kinda watery. So the Doctor switched him over to soy milk. But told me to try regular milk every few months. But I would try the reduced lactose before the soy, then she might be able to tolerate the whole milk later on.

It's likely that if she were lactose intolerant, that she would have a rash, much like a diaper rash. However, it's possible, and milk/dairy IS a common allergy, so I would definitely try to switch and see if anything changes. If it doesn't change, no harm done, and you know she's not lactose intolerant!
