almost all cologne have a strong smell to them. My advice is buy any cologne that you really like, good Cologne ranges from 40+ dollars. You could get a brand name one which last but you got to remember, everyone buys a brand name one. Just find one that YOU really like no matter what it is.
Here are some brand names: Polo/Polo Sport, Armani, Calvin Cline, Davidoff (not sure about the spelling on that one) Cool water is his best one. Those are some off the top of my head.
I myself have Armani Black Code I think its the best smelling cologne out there now. Or mabey something by Davidoff like Cool water or Good Life.

Any Channel. But be careful, as the scent is not for everyone. Sometimes it smells strange in some people.
