MAN TRAPPED 4 DAYS

By FRANK RYAN

December 10, 2006 -- Police and firefighters yesterday rescued a Long Island man who had been trapped in his bedroom for four days after piling up a 7-foot-high mountain made up of bags of his own feces, jars of urine and other debris.

An officer responded to Charles Ruoff's dilapidated home in Centerport around 3:30 a.m. after receiving an anonymous 911 call asking police to check up on the 64-year-old veteran who hadn't been seen in days.

As he explored the house, the cop heard Ruoff calling weakly from a second-floor bedroom where he had walled himself in with a mountain of his own filth. He said he had been trapped since Tuesday.

The Centerport Fire Department freed Ruoff using heavy rescue equipment.

Ruoff was taken to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Northport where he was treated for dehydration, hypothermia, bedsores and general weakness, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Donner said.

He's to old for Iraq, so isn't that petty much how vets are treated when they have outlived their usefulness to the Corp. machine. This poor guy was one of how many that need help, and noone cares. They are treated as an embarressment. Remember that when the troops come home from Iraq.

Human nature being what it is, corruption has been an everpresent evil since time immemorial. Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Let me quote a few stanzas from Edwin Muir's The Castle. Our gates were strong, our walls were thick, So smooth and high, no man could win A foothold there, no clever trick Could take us, have us dead or quick. Only a bird could have got in. What could they offer us for bait? Our captain was brave and we were true.... There was a little private gate, A little wicked wicket gate. The wizened warder let them through. Oh then our maze of tunneled stone Grew thin and treacherous as air. The cause was lost without a groan, The famous citadel overthrown, And all its secret galleries bare. How can this shameful tale be told? I will maintain until my death We could do nothing, being sold; Our only enemy was gold, And we had no arms to fight it with. Corruption has reached the highest level-----The exposure by Agencies may not bear fruit, but I feel at least for some it may act as a deterrent. Out of 100 won't at least one be afraid ? We would have made a beginning in the right direction.

Umm....couldn't he just move the bags, and clear a path to the door? I mean, maybe I'm a retard, but the story misses a lot of points. Was he too large to move? Had a stroke? Heart attack? Sickly in bed, and if he was, where was his nurse? And if he was too weak to move, how the hell did he pile up seven feet tall mounds of ANYTHING?
This article sounds like a load of crap to me. Hehe....I made a pun!

Truly sad that this should happen in this modern day and age, more so to a veteran.

Just another example of an American who gave his life and his sanity to the United States Government which absolutely did nothing in return. This act eventually turned him into a nut with no one to care about him or care for him.

All because Agent Orange was a good way to kill vegetation in Vietnam? They knew it also killed humans but....

It almost won us a war.
