The 7th in A has always been my absolute favourite since I first heard it many years ago,that is until recently when I've become a little obsessed with the revolutionary 3rd Symphonie "Eroica". The first two movements of the former versus the amazing theme & variations of the latter? - hard to choose. I still think the opening of the 7th with it's tremendous energy that's unleashed after the intro remains one of Beethoven's most joyous moments. Incidentally I read that the "Allegretto" 2nd movement of the 7th should actually read "Andante". That it was substituted for the former in later editions of the score to which Beethoven was aware according to Schindler who stated that "in later years the master recommended that the first designation be restored." Can anybody verify this? Regards Mephisto
