after formatting your hard drive you lost drivers for all the components on your motherboard...Windows can pick up a few for you but some drivers will need to be installed manually..The fastest way to tell if your drivers are theree or not would be to go to your control panel and double click on system then go to the hardware tab and click on device manager if your are having and driver related problems ther will be an exclamation mark next to the related device.....
Most likely you have a disk that came with your computer that has these drivers...If not you can visite the web site of the manufacturer of the sound card or whatever device you need drivers for..

No sound is heard on the computer or after Windows has been reinstalled. The audio card is often integrated with the motherboard for computers from HP and Dell. For more information you can check the following site: http://fixit.in/sound.html I find the information givenin the site is more useful

Windows xp did not recognize your audio card or chipset. If you have a brand name computer go to the manufactures website and download the audio drivers for your computer. If you built it your self find the driver cd that came with your audio card or motherboard (if it is an integrated audio chip.)
