Apollo 11 was a triumph, not a tragedy. It was mankind's first landing on the moon; a remarkable accomplishment. Apollo 1 was the first tragedy of NASA when Virgil "Gus" Grissom, Edward White, II, and Roger Chaffee burned to death in a flash fire inside their Apollo capsule during a launch pad test.

~The triumph was that NASA actually conned the world into believing that the US had successfully landed a spacecraft on the moon and returned it to earth. The tragedy was that the subteranean studio in South Philadelphia in which the whole fraud was filmed was discovered and turned into a hangout by Nicky Scarfo in 1976. (See further, Capricorn 1) Had it not been for the prowess of his son, Lance, on a bicycle, Neil Armstrong would have died in disgrace when the hoax came to light.
